Lecturer and student advisor Sister Serawit reflects on her fulfilling career at the Hamlin College of Midwives and her passion for mentoring the next generation of midwives.

Sister Serawit has worked at the Hamlin College of Midwives since January 2008. She is a lecturer and student advisor, and also manages the internal auditing of the College.
Sister Serawit first met Drs Catherine and Reg Hamlin when she was a student at the Black Lion Nursing School. They taught the nursing students how to treat and support women with obstetric fistula including how to provide psychological support. They also taught them how to prevent obstetric fistula and other childbirth injuries.
Later, when Sister Serawit began working at the Hamlin College of Midwives, she got to know Catherine very well and her respect for her grew.
As the person responsible for quality audit at the Hamlin College of Midwives, Sister Serawit reviews documents and conducts site visits to ensure it fulfils all required standards.
As a clinical instructor, she prepares lesson plans and teaches students about antenatal care, labor and delivery, and family planning services. She coaches them while they perform procedures and evaluates whether they have developed the necessary competencies. She gives them feedback and provides guidance on how to improve.
When students face challenges, they turn to Sister Serawit for advice. She counsels them and advises them to study on time, respect the College’s rules and behave appropriately. She also teaches students how to conduct research and present their work.
